ABOUT ME: THE PHOTOGRAPHER
I think I’ve always been interested in photography. In high school, when I heard they were starting a “Photography Club”, I eagerly signed up, hoping I would learn how to use my film camera. Turns out, the teacher in charge didn’t know much about taking pictures. She just wanted people to get some snapshots for the yearbook.
I went to college for a Fine Arts degree but the college I attended the first two years didn’t have any photography classes. I transferred to the school my dad was a professor at for my junior year and went to The Art Institute of Pittsburgh for their one year College Affiliate program. When I asked to take a photography class, I was told that the course schedule was already decided and there was no room for extra classes. So, for a very long time, I just kept taking pictures with my camera on “Auto”.
It wasn’t until I posted some shots of a little girl I was a nanny for, and a friend commented that photography was “my thing” that things changed. I had a “thing”! I had been searching for years for that one thing that I could truly say that I was good at. I realized, though, that I had so incredibly much to learn, so I signed up for “The Best Darn Beginner Class Ever” through Clickin’ Moms, in 2013, and finally learned to shoot in Manual. My passion for photography was born.
Right now, besides this project, I mainly photograph my son, and nature, but I don’t like to box myself in by saying I do “X” and then “X” defines me. I will go wherever my camera and my imagination take me.
