Week 5: Restful ME
These days, if I have any "free" time, I fill it with photography. Which is a good thing, but I have to admit that sometimes I do miss my old hobby - reading. I love books and before we had my son, I would sometimes drag my husband to bookstores on date nights. When we go on vacations one of the things I look forward to the most is the downtime I will have to just relax, be still, and read a good book. I'm pretty sure I will never read books on a screen the way most people do anymore. I like to hold a book in my hands and turn the pages.
These days I read to my son. Although he can certainly read himself, he still loves for me to read to him, and I will do it as long as he is willing. Snuggling under a blanket on the couch, laughing and reading to him are some of the best moments in my days. I have read to him since he was even born, and although it took a while, he now reads to himself for pleasure, not because he is forced to for homework. I hope he continues to find the joy in reading.
I am a pretty harsh critic of movies and books, as my husband would tell you. I cannot stand weak story lines or underdeveloped characters, but a good story captures my heart and soul.
"Children are made readers in the laps of their parents". Emilie Buchwald
"Reading forces you to be quiet in a world that no longer makes place for that". John Green
"Some books you read. Some books you enjoy. But some books just swallow you up heart and soul". Joanne Harris
"You know you've read a good book when you turn the last page and feel a little as if you have lost a friend". Paul Sweeney
