Week 21: I'm Grounded

As I mentioned last week, I have the strong desire to soak up the beauty of nature from time to time. One of the most memorable experiences of mine was when I went to a camp with a friend, and we went exploring in the woods. We stumbled upon this breathtaking spot... a clearing in the woods, with a waterfall and the sunlight filtering through the trees in a kind of otherworldly way. We both gasped and sat down next to each other on a large rock. My friend reached for my hand and we sat perfectly still and silent for a long time, feeling so strongly a connection to God, to nature, to life, and to the bond of our friendship. It was a feeling I never was able to duplicate in a church. Nature is my church. It grounds me, strengthens me, and reminds me that the world is a big, miraculous place and that each day in it is a gift.

"There are occasions when you can hear the mysterious language of the Earth, in water, or coming through the trees, emanating from the mosses, seeping through the undercurrents of the soil, but you have to be willing to wait and receive". John Hay (1916-2011) - The Immortal Wilderness
