First Friday Features: Tasha Marie

When I came across Tasha Marie's work on Flickr, I knew immediately that I wanted to feature her self portraits. I am so inspired by her use of nature to capture such emotive images. To me, each image tells a story and makes the viewer feel like they could climb into the scene. You can see more of her work on her website (http://teapalm.com), or at http://instagram.com/teapalm or http://Facebook.com/tasha.marie.photography

You: The Person

1. How would your family and friends describe you?

My friends and family would describe me as empathic, understanding, and shy.

2. Are you married or single? Do you have any children?

I'm single, never been married and I don't have any kids!

3. What makes you laugh? What makes you cry?

I have a pretty good sense of humour, so pretty much anything can make laugh. There's not a lot that can make me cry, but sometimes a good book can do that!

4. What is your best physical feature? What is one that you would like to change?

I like my eye colour a lot, I think it's quite unique. I wish I was taller!

5. If you could change one thing about yourself or your life, what would it be?

I wish I could be more outgoing and talkative.

6. Where/How did you meet your closest friends?

I met most of my closest friends, including my boyfriend, through photography! Our common interests brought our friend group together.

7. What is the craziest thing you’ve ever done?

I don't so many crazy things, but sometimes I'll sneak up on top of really tall buildings at night so I can take pictures.

8. What is the one thing about yourself that you are really proud of?

I'm proud of my determination and passion to follow my dreams! I think a lot of people don't push themselves to do what they truly want, and I think that's something I'm proud of.

You: The Photographer

9. How did you become interested in photography?

My family took a trip to Europe when I was 14 and I started taking landscape / travel photos and fell in love!

10. If you’re in business, how long have you been in business, and what job did you have before becoming a photographer?

I'm currently a part time wedding and portrait photographer, I started in 2012 and haven't stopped since. I still have a full time job at a DMV but it helps to pay the bills when it's not wedding season!

11. What camera/lenses/camera bag do you use?

I own a Nikon D810, and a FM2! My favourite lenses are my 24-70mm, 35mm and 85mm.

12. Do you use Lightroom, Photoshop or both?

I use both! Lightroom for touch ups and photoshop for more in-depth editing.

13. Do you take pictures everyday?

Not everyday, but I try to shoot or go out and adventure at least every weekend!

14. What is your biggest struggle as a photographer?

Finding inspiration to shoot new things is something I struggle with from time to time.

15. How difficult would it be for you to go without screens (no phone/ iPad/ computer/ TV) for one week? One month?

The difficult part would be not being able to post my photos to Instagram and tumblr. Other than that it's hard not being able to edit my photos ! I'd feel like I was being deprived from photography!

16. How do you promote your photography?

I mainly just use social media like Facebook, Instagram and tumblr to promote my work. I try to post often and reach a wide audience!

17. Whose work are you most influenced or inspired by?

My favourite artist is Oleg Oprisco! His work is amazing and each one is a masterpiece, he really thinks his images through from top to bottom.

18.. Have you done any personal projects? Is there anything new you are working on right now or plan to start soon?

Most of my conceptual work is personal! I plan on going to New Zealand for a month and I'll be working on new personal projects!
